We bought two expensive roadside mailboxes in 2006 which were supposed to be partly cast aluminum. Well, the doors were aluminum, but the steel bodies of these mailboxes now have large holes & gaps were the rust has completely eaten through the thick steel in less than six years. We just paid over $200 apiece for two new all-aluminum roadside mailboxes. So, instead of buying those cheap stick-on numbers from the local hardware store that completely fade in less than a year, we decided to invest in DIY Lettering retro-reflective numbers for our new mailboxes. Overall, I’m pleased with these new numbers and I hope to use your services in the future for other projects. But, I’m still worried about these new numbers falling off of our new mailboxes in just a few months after exposure to the elements. We live on a busy rural road, and a lot of road salt is applied in Winter. That’s why our old mailboxes rotted out so badly after only six years. These new DIY Lettering numbers just don’t seem to want to adhere very well. I expected that if I paid a few dollars more for your DIY Lettering (instead of that crap sold at the local hardware store) that I’d have mailbox numbers that would last. Only time will tell. I’m an engineer, so I understand that pressure is key to make adhesive stick properly, so I applied a lot of pressure to these new numbers over and over to ensure they stick well. I did prepare the surface as best I could to make sure there was absolutely no chemical residue of any kind left over from the manufacturing process on the painted surfaces. I also scuffed up the area slightly where I put the numbers, too, so try to ensure that the new numbers would adhere well. I made sure that I didn’t touch the adhesive at all. The DIY Lettering process did work quite well. I did exactly what it said to do on the little business card enclosed with the new numbers. I would point out that the removal of the inner liner doesn’t really show up that well in your instructions. Please consider adding another photo to your instructions showing that the liner that’s pulled off first is the one that’s UNDERNEATH. Either that or expand on the written text to effect my recommendation. I did have trouble because the products were rolled up for shipment, as they kept trying to roll back up while I worked with them. I’d recommend you consider mailing these letters flat. But, I guess you’ve been doing this long enough that you’ve worked out the kinks and that shipping these rolled up is likely the way you found works best. Wouldn’t mailing be cheaper, though, if they were flat and you could ship as a “USPS Flat” instead of a “USPS Package?” That’s a rhetorical question. Anything you could do to reduce costs would be appreciated. Thanks for listening!!!
When we purchased this post from Mayne, it was my understanding that customized plaques could be made by a 3rd party company that screw into the newspaper box. At a cost of $50/plaque, I was just going to order one side. I then found out they were discontinued. Good thing, the custom vinyl numbering is so much cheaper, faster, and looks fantastic with the ability to add a shadow effect. I even ordered small reflective numbers for the mailbox door as we are on the end of a cul-de-sac (may remove those, but they are nicely visible at night). Overall, very impressed with the whole experience. I will be looking for excuses to add vinyl elsewhere.
Did you notice that most mailboxes today are black? Do you know how hard it is to find white numbers at local sources? Well not only did I find white numbers here, but also they were in so many styles, and even more colors, it was hard to choose. And being transferred to the mail box all at once, instead of one at a time, made for a quick and professional installation. I'm happy!! I’ll bet the mailperson is too! Don

Lettering arrived fast and in perfect condition. The "Gold" was exactly what I wanted, with a metallic look to it.
I was unable to select more than one photo. I am using latest version of Google Chrome browser. No big deal, I will send the other picture via email.

The reflective letters really jumped out at me the first time I drove up to my mailbox at night. They were definitely worth the extra cost. No one will be able to miss my house number at night now!

I loved that I could design it online and see what it looked like. I changed it several times until I was satisfied. It looks great on my Mailbox and is just what I pictured. I would definetely use this site again.
It's been about 9 months since I got the numbers for my mailbox. I still love them, no peeling or anything. They are great quality and I would order from Do It Yourself Lettering again.
I've had comments like - "Did you have your numbering custom painted?" The quality of the lettering is excellent and the application went without a flaw just following your instructions. I recommend your lettering to my friends and neighbors.
I ordered a few sets of numbers a while back and wished i had ordered bold. I stated that on the website under the "would you do this again section." Low and behold, a few weeks later a set of my numbers showed up in bold, free of charge. I was shocked & taken back that anyone even read my comment from the company, let alone sent me a new set of numbers. It really was above & beyond! I put the new ones on this weekend. They look Perfect. I will be ordering my last name to accompany them soon. great company & product!!

Excellent product and super service. Courtesy "oozes" out of the site and communications. The web site was a little daunting at first. However, a couple of passes through and I understood the philosophy and practice.
We couldn't find numbers that we liked in any of the big box stores. Either the font was too boring or the color was wrong. A google search pointed us to DIY Lettering. The entire process was easy and our mailbox pops as one of the nicer ones on the block.
We purchased a new mailbox to add "curb appeal" to our house prior to listing it for sale. The street numbers really look great! The standard numbers were easy to apply, very strong, and look great. I am very pleased with the price, service and quality of this product.
Website was very easy to create exactly what I needed. The first package was destroyed in-transit (by USPS) and arrived a mess - I told DIY and they immediately sent a replacement with no questions asked... great customer service!
